Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor



There are no rules to this whole thing, you know. We're not ones for rules, or definition, but we do hold store by precedent. And it's not gone unnoticed that never before has an artist been posted twice. Until today. New Year's Eve, the very last day of SotD's inaugural year, and the day I put Hot Chip at the top spot in my end of '08 countdown.

But it's with good reason, and I think I am forgiven - Ready For The Floor is simply an electro-pop masterpiece. I've always sort of liked the East London lads, but it wasn't until Made In The Dark found its way onto my iPod in early Spring that I started to love them. Every single track on that record rocks, it's as simple as that. It has a certain quirkiness, but not in a cliched or naive way; this is a highly crafted work of art.

So, aside from the fact that it sounds awesome and makes you wanna move in a 'who cares, let's dance' fashion, Ready For The Floor is my song of the year because it will always remind me of fantastic times and brilliant people. And it's a perfect way to round off 2008 - so go get your dancing shoes on, prepare to throw shapes and hope for a dancefloor as cool as the one in this vid.
