The Envy Corps - Story Problem
Japan is a goldmine of fascinating gameshow action - Banzai was the first major show to make it over here, though anyone who saw Tarrant on TV circa mid 90s will know they've been at it almost as long as Bruce Forsyth. Takeshi's Castle is a cult cable channel hit, a favourite of students and shift-workers, and it provides this fairly lazy rip-off for The Envy Corps' Story Problem. You can file this into the "a lot more fun to make than to watch" category, which I see now is the problem with my A-Level Media Studies music vid. If it weren't such a straight up-and-down song it would be too distracting.
Taking a leaf from the Ladyhawke book of lyrics (see SotD 15/09/2008), they rescue it with a few anthemic nah-nah-nahs and a hummable tune. Maybe it wouldn't be unfair to say this song's like Angel Delight - uncomplicated, you know you shouldn't like it but there's a strange appeal that makes you keep shoving spoonfuls into your trap.
