Snow Patrol - Absolute Gravity
Ok, ok, I've cheated a bit. It's not a proper vid. This was a single - a double a-side actually - but nowhere can I find the official video, so you'll have to stare at the album cover instead.
I'm posting it more to make a point. Snow Patrol used to be interesting. Quirky. Unusual. But you'll see why they abandoned this in favour of the MOR sound. They released it in late 1998, and it reached - are you ready? - #177 in the charts (I didn't even think they went that far down?), narrowly failing to knock Cher's Believe off the top spot. (Incidentally, within the last 6 months of that year, these were among the artists who reached no1: Billie, Another Level, Spice Girls, Boyzone, Robbie Williams, Melanie B, B*Witched, Billie (again), Cher, Spice Girls, B*Witched (again) and Spice Girls (again). These were truly terrifying times for pop music).
Anyway, since Snow Patrol decided to stick to stadium-fillers, they've had 5 top 10 singles and a number 1 album. But we all know they were once far cooler.
